Sound Breathing S

Trainer Tengai · 5 forms · Unlocks at level 25 · Slayer path only

Sound is built around area damage: its forms hit multiple demons at once, which makes it the fastest style for farming quest packs. It has no clan-specific damage bonus, so it fits any build. Be aware that balance patches through September and October repeatedly adjusted its damage and cooldowns, so test it in game after updates.

Where this tier comes from: The most contested style on tier lists: Destructoid's October 5 PVE table and TechWiser rank it S, while the September V0.17 pass dropped it from A to B and community reports describe broad damage reductions. Read the reasoning, not just the letter.

The training tasks

Tengai sets six tasks: the shared five, plus a field task and a final fight with the Sound Trainee. The tasks unlock one at a time and the quest marker leads to each training area.

  1. Meditation — Butterfly Mansion, second-room mat. Click each time the moving bar crosses the white marker until the meter fills.
  2. Cup Training — Butterfly Mansion, third-room mat. Pick the cup hiding the coin 10 times — a wrong pick costs one of three lives and the shuffle speeds up each round.
  3. Push Ups — Butterfly Mansion, push-up mat. Click each white circle as the inner ring touches its edge. Standing up with a red aura means the set failed.
  4. Aim Training — Butterfly Mansion, shooting range. Click the targets as they pop up on the boards.
  5. Field task — Varies by style (Boulder Split, parkour dungeon, underwater rocks…). Each style has one field task before the final fight — follow the quest marker.
  6. Trainee fight — Your trainer's training ground. Beat the style's Trainee NPC to unlock the style, then spend skill points on its forms in the Skill Tree.

Task spots follow the shared Butterfly Mansion mini-games reported across the breathing guides; each style's field task differs. Winning the trainee fight unlocks the style — then open the Skill Tree and spend your points on the forms.

What is the best clan for Sound Breathing?

No — demons cannot learn breathing. Their equivalent is a random blood demon art roll after conversion. Switching paths later resets your breathing progress, so this is a one-way street worth deciding early.

How Sound Breathing compares to the other styles

Within the tier list, Sound Breathing's identity is its best crowd clear for quest packs and dungeons. The honest way to compare styles is by what they demand of you: Thunder demands hit-and-run discipline, Flame punishes whiffed openers, Water rewards patience, Serpent and Insect reward spacing, Stone rewards commitment, Wind rewards aggression, and Sound rewards positioning in group fights. None of that shows up in a tier letter — but all of it decides whether a style works for you. The fee matters too: at 4,000 Wen, Sound Breathing is one of the cheaper unlocks, which softens the risk of trying it.

Skill tree order for Sound Breathing

The style unlocks as a kit, but skill points decide how fast it becomes dangerous. The community-tested order: Form 1 first — your opener (Slamming Earth) is the move you land most often, so its damage scales your whole game. Form 2 next (Shattering Waves) for combo continuation, then Wall Climb and Double Jump if you have not bought them yet (trainer access and Final Selection both need them). Forms 3-5 (Resounding Strike, Echoing Roar, Constant Resounding Waves) follow as Wen allows — the last two forms are the biggest single jumps but also the most expensive, so take them when farming pays comfortably rather than at the edge of your balance. Every form sits on its own cooldown, which means each new form adds uptime, not just damage: by form three you should rarely be auto-attacking while waiting.

Where Sound Breathing shines — and where it struggles

Best content for Sound Breathing

  • PvP duels and ranked — best crowd clear for quest packs and dungeons defines the matchup.
  • Boss farming — its opener punishes the moments bosses stand still.
  • Quest waves — aoE covers large groups keeps the pack clear moving.
  • Dungeon runs — consistent forms pair well with damage-boosting cards.

Matchups to respect

  • −Hit by repeated nerfs since launch (V0.17 dropped it from A)
  • −Slower single-target damage
  • −Trainer is deep in the snow biome
  • −Facing mirror matches — the style knows your tricks

The practical read: Sound Breathing rewards group play, and its weaknesses are all punish windows — hit by repeated nerfs since launch (v0.17 dropped it from a). Every style in the game can beat every other in the right hands; tier lists describe the cost of getting there, not a verdict.

Requirements and form names are community-reported (BloxInformer, Robloxden, All Things How and Pro Game Guides routes, cross-checked October 2026) and may change with updates.
